Rat Control

Rat Pest Control

Rats in warehouses, factories and out-buildings, especially older buildings and gardens are a fairly common occurrence, as is their presence in disused or empty sites.

In office environments they are often found in areas like suspended ceilings, floors and wall cavities which once in, allow them easy access throughout the rest of the building to forage.

The common Brown Rat (also called the Sewer or Norway Rat) can forage up to a mile from their burrows and are often seen outside, burrowing below bushes, on waste ground, overgrown gardens etc.- especially where there is ready access to food and water and commonly the sites may have overgrown vegetation or rubbish providing cover.

It is well know that rats also live in our sewer system and broken drains caused by things such as tree roots, collapsed paving etc. will allow them access to the outside world. Dry, disused toilets and uncovered drains are also frequent highways from sewers to buildings.

Rat incisors like all rodent teeth never stop growing and theirs are strong enough to gnaw through thin mild steel, so wooden skirting boards, door frames, plaster etc. are no problem to get through!

Aside from potential gnawing damage and the obvious health risks associated with rats- the fear that they can cause should not be taken lightly.

Taking action to get rid of rats on site is not something that should be postponed as they will only increase in numbers once established.

What We Do?

EBS will always offer a free survey to all commercial sites suffering from or suspecting rat activity in order for us to identify the full extent of the problem and present the best solution. Control options can vary from one off jobs, preventative work through to ongoing maintenance to monitoring for re-infestations and help in providing companies with their necessary due diligence.

When treating for rats outdoors, baiting direct into burrows and back-filling them is optimum if they can be found and reached otherwise tamper-proof or secure steel bait stations will be used to ensure rodenticides are kept safe from pets, wildlife and children.

Wherever possible, they are placed in discrete or hidden locations, however they do need to be around where the rodents are active.

The initial visit will include more wide-spread baiting with follow-up visits homing in on hot-spots for a more focused treatment.

Other typical locations we would inspect for rats would include outbuildings, sub-floor, attics, rubbish heaps, bin areas, decking, hedgerows, uncovered drains , riser cupboards, plant rooms, basements etc. also below and behind fixed units (e.g. kitchen units).

Your pest control technician will also advise on proofing and hygiene issues for you to address to help prevent future infestation. These could include overflowing bins, gaps below doors, broken pipes etc. A written report will be left each time confirming our actions and recommendations.

All pesticides we use are approved by HSE and comply with the European Biocides Directive and we will conduct a full CoSHH and Risk Assessment before we carry out any treatment.

All our technicians are BPCA qualified and DBS checked for your peace of mind. Copies of all documentation are available on request.
