Outlined are details of what we can do for you are below, however, please feel free to call us on for an informal chat with one of our technical surveyors who can advise further and confirm our competitive prices.

Mouse Pest Control in the Workplace

For mouse infestations that are caught early on, a short term programme of visits will probably be enough to solve the problem, however, for businesses of any size we will always carry out an initial site survey to identify the exact nature and extent of problem. (Let’s face it, you’re there to work and earn a living, not to find out how many mice you’ve got and where they are – that’s our job!).

We never charge for site surveys (business or homeowners). We still aim for same day or next day service and our Surveyors usually carry mouse baits with them so something can be done there and then if you want us to.

How do We Carry out Treatments against Mice?

Usually, three visits over a three-four week period is enough for us to get rid of light-medium mouse infestations.

During these visits, mouse bait stations will be placed discreetly in the affected areas (usually behind or under fixtures/fittings, furniture, cupboards, electrical or mechanical cupboards etc.).
In commercial premises, we may need access below raised floors, electrical cupboards, kitchens, basements and the like.

EBS Mouse Bait BoxOur mouse bait boxes are key-locked and designed so that small children and pets larger than mice cannot easily gain access to the non-spill bait inside. They are also crush resistant and contain a rodenticide which has a lethal effect on mice.

During following visits, your technician will check all baits, re-filling and relocating them as needs dictate for maximum effectiveness.

Minor mouse proofing, such as blocking gaps around a few pipes, skirting board edges etc will be carried out as standard by our technician. He will also advise on any hygiene or housekeeping improvements required.

House Mouse Biology and Habits

If mice are suspected, food preparation surfaces and equipment must be hot washed immediately before use to prevent illness from bacteria within their urine and stored food checked for signs of mouse activity – gnawing damage and droppings are the biggest clues. Work surfaces should also be given a disinfecting wipe to control bacteria transfer.

Mouse (Mus domesticus) droppings (faeces) look like slightly smaller black grains of rice. If they are shiny black, they are fresh and dusty means older.

Mice gnaw small, clean holes about 3-4 centimetres in diameter.

Mice will eat almost anything, but prefer cereal grains, seeds, or sweet material. They require very little water, obtaining most of their fluids from their food.

An adult mouse only needs around 3 g of food to thrive and only up to 3ml of water if their diet is very dry. Given adequate food supply, they can eat 10-15% of their bodyweight daily. An adult mouse weighs up to thirty grams. Mice will also cache food if supply permits.

If there are good living conditions (food, water, and shelter), mice can multiply rapidly. New-born mice are sexually mature in eight-twelve weeks and producing up to eight litters in a one year life time. Each litter has 4-16 young.

In short, if you see any mice, we recommend you take action as there could easily be many more.

The house mouse has a relatively small head with large eyes and ears. This distinguishes it from a young brown rat which has relatively small ears and eyes. The tail is as long as the head and body combined. The fur colour varies, but it is usually a light grey or brown, but could be darker shades. It has an overall colouration.

Mice make their nests from soft material like paper, insulation, or furniture stuffing. The nests are found in many places including wall cavities, ceiling voids, storage boxes, drawers, under or within major appliances, or within the upholstery of furniture. Outside, the nests are found in debris or in ground burrows.

House mice have a characteristic musky odour that identifies their presence. Mice are most active at night but they can be seen during the day, especially if they feel very secure and established in their environment or if food is in demand, either through shortage or a growing litter.

House Mouse Trivia

  • A house mouse is an excellent climber and can run up any rough vertical surface. It will run horizontally along wire cables or ropes and can jump from the floor onto a flat surface.
  • They can jump 30cm straight up – If a Human could do the scaled equivalent, he’d easily be able to jump onto the roof of a house!
  • Mice can jump down twelve foot without injury. That’s like us jumping off a ten story building.
  • A mouse can last longer without drinking water than a camel.
  • Mice don’t have effective bladders so they urinate anywhere and everywhere.
  • When the end of a biro pen fits through a hole, a mouse can pass through it.
